Congratulations to all FFA Award Winners! - Apr 20, 2017

The 73 rd Annual Winona FFA Awards Banquet was held on Tuesday, April 11, at Winona Senior High School. Over 200 parents, guests and members were present. Winona FFA President, Amanda McNally, was master of ceremonies. Winona FFA Advisor, Brian Sather, recognized the chapter’s most outstanding members with awards based on their leadership skills, chapter involvement, and individual projects. The star member awards were presented to the chapter’s most outstanding members. The Star Senior Awards went to Courtney Schams, daughter of Steve and Sarah Schams and Amanda McNally, daughter of Jim and Stacy McNally. Star Junior Awards went to Tyffanie Denzer, daughter of Eric and Wendy Denzer and Trinity Hugunin, daughter of Amy and Mark Hugunin. Star Discovery Degree Awards went to Trentton Denzer, son of Eri and Wendy Denzer, Bailey Harris, daughter of Judy and Greg Denzer, and Correy Schams son of Steve and Sarah Schams. Amanda McNally was recognized as being the chapter’s most active senior female member when she was named “Chapter Sweetheart”. McNally was also awarded the Retiring Presidents Plaque for serving as 2016-17 Winona FFA President. Hannah Aldinger, daughter of Roger and Teresa Aldinger was awarded a Retiring Senior Plaque.

Full House at Madison SLIP Math Night - Apr 21, 2017

Madison SLIP Math Night on April 18th, was a huge success with over 180 participants! Parents were able to learn how to incorporate math games at home and get a sneak peak into their child's math class in Spanish! Thank you to all that were able to attend, parents play a huge role in their child's learning experience.

Winona District School Nutrition Employee Wins National Recognition - May 2, 2017

(National Harbor, MD – May 2, 2017) – The national, non-profit School Nutrition Association has awarded Krystal Schaetz from Winona Senior High in Winona District #861, MN, the Midwest regional Employee of the Year Award, which recognizes the valuable contribution of school nutrition employees who exhibit a remarkable commitment to the school meal program and the students they serve.

Minnesota State High School League Art Competition - May 16, 2017

Each year outstanding works of WSHS student art are selected for display during the Minnesota State High School League Visual Arts Exhibition in Rochester, MN. During this exhibition, local judges evaluate student art and award artwork with Superior, Excellent, or Best of Show ratings.

6th Grade Attends Law Day - May 17, 2017

Friday, May 5th Winona Area Public Schools 6th grade students attended Law Day. The Winona County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council puts on this days event. Each student has five stations that they rotate through including court administration with a visit with a judge, the defense attorney, restorative justice, probation office, county attorney Karin Sonneman and a mock trial in a courtroom.  Leading up to Law Day the student’s social studies unit focus has been on Juvenile Justice Standards. They have participated in many activities that correspond with this three-week unit including a video about the Winona County Jail. The students enjoyed Law Day and the opportunity to meet Winona County Criminal Justice members.

Jefferson STEM Presents Kindergarten Zoo to PEAK - May 22, 2017

On Tuesday, May 16th the kindergarten students at Jefferson STEM school presented their Kindergarten Zoo at their final PEAK (Parents Educating All Kids) night if the year. As part of their Project Based Learning the students researched an animal, wrote about and presented their information, built the animals habitat, and built their animals with the Lego Learn2Learn kits.

7th Grade Students Create Body Maps - May 22, 2017

Winona Senior High School 7th graders made Body Maps! Body Maps, which originated as a therapy source for women in South Africa who were victims of HIV, now are used in various ways, such as in therapeutic offices and to help students understand character depth in literature.

WSHS Community Service Learning Class Collects 204 Books - May 23, 2017

Winona Senior High School students Caroline Anderson, Nicki Doffing, Elizabeth Anderson and Claire Conway collected over 204 books! These students are in WSHS Community Service Learning Class and wanted to do a project that would give back to Winona Area Public Elementary Schools. They decided that they would collect books, they put up flyers around the school, made intercom announcement and used Social Media to spread the campaign. After all their efforts, they collected 204 books for WAPS Elementary Schools. Thank you to everyone who donated and to the WSHS Community Service Class!
